Our story
In 2004, Cornelia Kauhs came up with the idea of creating a brand of yoga clothing designed entirely in a yogic spirit focused on its essential values. So, she decided to go to India where she made the first collection simply called “yogafashion”. Unconvinced of the ethics of Indian production, she started to learn about Portuguese know-how in cotton and to look for a factory that can produce from organic materials. As it turned out challenging to meet high-quality productions at this moment, she made a partnership with a small family-run company specialized in children’s clothing in 2009. It took some time to find the ideal material, which is a resistant organic cotton, using non-chemical dyes with respect for the environment.
At the same time, Cornelia conceptualized a smart line of yoga clothing that could be easily combined using beautiful colors inspired by nature. The female body is at the center of the models and of our reflections. Each design is made with the different silhouettes in mind so that you can find the right fit and feel good in your yoga outfits.
This is how the brand Breath of Fire was founded and later on carried by Lia’s daughters too ( Maya & Pernelle), and since then the production is fully funded with the gains from the sale of clothing. We see the financial flows as energetic flows that it is important to keep pure, therefore our funds are all placed in a small bank of proximity, in clean funds and the brand has evolved only through these.
Breath of Fire does not follow the requirements of fashion to provide a certain amount of different patterns by season and year. Thus, one to two models a year is created, and this principle requires a great precision on the part of our production. Our very first collection is Ever green. As we have been producing the same model for more than 10 years, there may be some differences if you buy a garment with a time lag. We have come to appreciate these differences as they are the result of continuity and hard work on a small scale. We hope that you will do the same.
It’s been more then 10 years that Breath of Fire, has been producing sustainable clothing for different yoga practices. Certainly, awareness towards clothing production as well as our consuming habits change slowly, and most of us buy clothing without paying attention to the production chain and its overall impact. Today, the textile industry is the second most polluting industry in the world. Changing fashion consuming habits is what underpins our project.
