Golden Milk – A Nectar!
Golden milk, or turmeric milk, has become very popular lately, and for a good reason. This traditional ayurvedic drink has a lot of history and has been a part of Indian culture for centuries. The key ingredient of this classic drink is turmeric which is a yellow spice common in Indian cuisine. Turmeric has been used as ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years due to its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties serving abundant health benefits. Turmeric is also used to relieve swelling and pain from headaches and injuries and is called “natural aspirin” in Ayurvedic medicine.
The Golden Milk Recipe
The golden milk gets its name from the bright yellow colour of turmeric. Many people refer to it in different terms. Some of the most common among them are Haldi Doodh, Golden Milk Latte, and Turmeric Milk Tea.
While there are so many ways of preparing this healthy drink, I’m sure our way of making it is the most nutritious, tastiest, and the best you may have come across by far.
Ingredients
The golden milk tea is incredibly easy to make. The key ingredients of golden milk are listed below:
- Five tablespoons of virgin coconut oil
- 1/2 cup organic turmeric powder
- 1 cup of water
- 1.5 teaspoons black pepper
- 2 cups almond milk (rice milk, cashew milk, soy milk, coconut milk, or cow’s milk if you prefer)
- A pinch of cinnamon
Note: You can replace the almond milk with any other milk of your choice!
Cooking Instructions
First, make a turmeric paste by mixing the coconut oil, turmeric powder, and black pepper to bring out the aromas and virtues of these spices. Add in the pan just a little water (not too much) to make a good paste and simmer for about 10 minutes. Once the golden mixture cools down, store it in a jar and put it in the refrigerator for about two weeks.
Now, to make the golden milk, heat the almond milk (or any other milk of your choice) and add a teaspoon of the golden paste. Whisk until well blended. Add cinnamon to taste.
For slightly spicier golden milk, you can also add Ginger, which is excellent.
Just take a ginger root and cut 2cm of it, peel and grind it finely and add it to the mixture when you prepare the golden milk.
When you practice a lot of yoga or have had an intensive day that requires a lot of effort from the body, it is delicious to drink a little golden milk in the evening to heal your joints and sleep well.
